Samsung has been dominating the Indian market for quite some time now. OnePlus is a new entry to the Indian market, but within a short span of time, it has been able to create a distinctive place for itself. In this post, we will compare phones from these two companies namely Samsung Galaxy A9 and OnePlus 3T.
Design and Display:
Samsung Galaxy A9 comes with a metallic body and a big screen size of 6 inches. It has the dimensions of 161.7 (H) x 80.9 (W) x 7.4 (T) mm which is obviously slightly bigger than OnePlus 3T because of the big screen. It is also bulky and weighs 200 grams. It is available in three colours- gold, pink and white.
Samsung Galaxy A9 features a screen size of 6 inches which is Full High Definition (FHD). It has the resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and pixel density of 367 PPI. It uses SUPER AMOLED display type but is not protected by any scratch resistant display. The screen to body ratio is 75.69 %.
OnePlus 3T, on the other hand, OnePlus 3T also has a metallic body which has a screen size of 5.5 inches with the dimensions of 152.7 (H) x 74.7 (W) x 7.3 (T) mm. The weight of the device is average and weighs 158 grams. It is available in two colours Gun Metal and Soft Gold.
OnePlus 3T also sports a sharp full High Definition (FHD) display with screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 401 PPI. It comes with an Optic AMOLED display which is protected with Gorilla Glass 4. The screen to body ratio is 72.94 %.
Talking about physical appearance, there is a Samsung logo on the top in Samsung Galaxy A9. Samsung Galaxy A9 has a physical button below the display like all Samsung phones, which acts as a fingerprint sensor as well. There are two capacitive keys with back key on the right side and recent apps on the left side. The power key lies on the right side of the phone and volume keys on the left. On the right side, below the power key, there is a hybrid dual SIM card tray. The front side features 8MP camera, and the back side of the phone has a 13 MP camera located in the top centre with LED flash next to it.
OnePlus 3T, on the other hand, also has a physical home button, but it doesn’t work as a physical button, rather recognizes a tap gesture. This home key also acts as a fingerprint scanner. There is no branding on the front side of this phone. Similar to Samsung Galaxy A9, volume keys are on the left side of the device and power key and dual SIM tray on the right. There is also an alert slider on the left side of this device below the volume buttons. This alert slider is missing in Samsung Galaxy A9. This phone doesn’t support expandable memory card. Charging slot or USB type C port is located at the bottom of the device.
Performance:
Performance wise OnePlus 3T beats Samsung Galaxy A9 with massive 6 GB RAM. Samsung Galaxy A9 has 3 GB RAM and uses older processor Snapdragon 652 chipset whereas OnePlus 3T uses faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 Processor. OnePlus 3T also runs Quad core 2.35 GHz processor whereas Samsung Galaxy A9 runs on 1.8 Ghz Quad-core Cortex-A72 chipset. For graphics, OnePlus 3T uses newer Adreno 530 GPU and Samsung Galaxy A9 uses Adreno 510 GPU.
Software:
3T runs on Android Marshmallow (6.0.1) with its latest Oxygen 3.5.3 on top whereas Samsung Galaxy A9 runs on older Android Lollipop (5.1.1) with its own Touch Wiz UI on top.
Camera and Storage:
Samsung Galaxy A9 includes a 13MP rear camera with f/1.9 aperture, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and a LED flash. There is also a shortcut to launch the camera by just double tapping the Home key. It records video at 1920×1080 @ 30 fps but doesn’t support 4K recording. The front camera of 8MP is also less than that of OnePlus 3T.
OnePlus 3T comes with 16 MP rear camera and supports Optical Image Stabilization. It has an aperture of 2.0 F and is good for low lighting conditions. It has the image resolution of 4616 * 3464 pixels. It allows video recording at 3840×2160 @ 30 fps, 1280×720 @ 120 fps. The selfie camera of OnePlus 3T is double that of Samsung Galaxy A9. It has 16MP selfie camera with an aperture of 2.0f.
Samsung Galaxy A9 has an internal storage of 32 GB which is expandable up to 128GB. Samsung Galaxy A9 uses a hybrid SIM slot for memory card. On the other hand, OnePlus 3T has an internal storage of 64 GB which is not expandable.
Battery and Connectivity:
Samsung Galaxy A9 has a larger battery capacitive than that of OnePlus 3T. Samsung Galaxy A9 comes with 4000mAH battery. The battery is non-removable, but it supports fast charging.
OnePlus 3T on the other hand has 3400mAH battery, which is also non-replaceable. It supports dash charging.
Samsung Galaxy A9 is a dual SIM device with only one SIM supporting 4G. It uses hybrid SIM. OnePlus 3T is also a dual SIM device with both the slots supporting 4G. Both the devices have NFC.
The Verdict:
Clearly, OnePlus 3T is ahead of Samsung Galaxy A9 in all the fields. If you are a brand conscious person, then Samsung A9 is a good phone, but if brand doesn’t matter, then OnePlus 3T is a much better deal.
Samsung Galaxy A9 price in India is expected to cost Rs.31990 whereas OnePlus 3T costs Rs29,999.
